Appointment of new Chief Financial Offi cer
Caldric Randall has been appointed as
the new Chief Financial Offi cer for the
Isle of Man Government.
Mr Randall is a Fellow of the Association
of the Chartered Certified Accountants
(FCCA), qualifying in 2000, and has
been at the Isle of Man Government
since 2008. He started as the Chief
Internal Auditor, before progressing
onto the role of Financial Controller, a
post he held for four years.
Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said: “I am delighted that Caldric
has been appointed as Chief Financial Offi cer, following a robust
recruitment process. I know that he is committed to ensuring financial
sustainability and credibility for the long term future of the Island.
“I would like to thank Sheila Lowe for her outstanding contribution to
Government and the Treasury.”
Caldric Randall said: “I am delighted and proud to have been appointed.
I look forward to continuing to build on the firm financial foundations that
are in place which have allowed the Island to prosper and grow.
There are currently many economic uncertainties in play across the
globe which may impact on the Isle of Man. It is vital that we continue to
ensure that our fiscal planning and strategies are robust so that we are
able to deal with whatever outcomes prevail.
The immediate priority for me will be the presentation of the 2019
Budget to Tynwald in February and I look forward to supporting the
Minister with its delivery.”
Dual delight for law firm
Douglas law firm M&P Legal has boosted its legal team by the
qualification of a trainee and the addition of a senior consultant.
Amelia Quinn was recently admitted to the Manx bar after a two year
training period with M&P Legal. She is now an associate advocate in the
firm’s litigation department. Meanwhile Advocate Nigel Cordwell, one
of the Island’s most experienced personal injury lawyers, is consulting
with M&P Legal to help manage its personal injury caseload. Nigel is a
Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and has 30 years’
medical law experience in England and the Isle of Man.
Amelia stated that she was hugely pleased and proud to be admitted
to the Manx bar. She follows in a family tradition with her father and
two of her brothers already qualified as lawyers and working in the
Island. “I am really looking forward to developing a litigation practice
and appearing in Courts and Tribunals for the firm’s excellent client
base,” commented Amelia. In addition Amelia has just qualified as a Data
Protection Practitioner having passed the necessary exam at first sitting.
Nigel Cordwell remains in private practice servicing a number of high
profile clients while bringing his vast expertise and experience to the
M&P Legal team. He stated: “I am impressed with the no nonsense and
common sense way M&P Legal goes about its business and I am enjoying
being part of its litigation team”. Nigel also brings German language
capability to the firm and is admitted in the Republic of Ireland.
The firm’s joint managing director John Aycock, head of litigation, added
that this dual development marked an important milestone for the firm.
Plan.com promotion for Louise
After a series of extremely competitive interviews, plan.com has
appointed Louisa Thomas to the position of Quality Assurance Executive.
Louisa’s promotion comes only ten months after she was initially brought
in to the company as a Customer Service Executive.
Before embarking on a career in banking, Louisa worked
as a photographer and filmmaker. She is also the musical
director of the Isle of Man’s Meraki Community Choir.
Michelle Johnston, plan.com Compliance Manager,
said: “Louisa is a welcome addition to the team. She
has a solid understanding of the company and is in
a good position to hit the ground running. During
