LAWYER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR CHRIS ARROWSMITH Simcocks Advocates director, Chris Arrowsmith, has received the accolade of Lawyer of the Year from the Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards 2018. The publication has named the highly regarded advocate “Litigation and Dispute Resolution – Lawyer of the Year” in the Isle of Man category. Lawyer Monthly states that its awards “identify and honour the most respected Lawyers and Law Firms who lead the way on a global stage.” Also that they “celebrate the most successful, innovative and forward- thinking Lawyers across the world.” Nominations are voted for by the magazine’s readership, then a shortlist is drawn up and a winner is chosen by the judging panel based on votes, supporting information and testimonials. Her success further demonstrates the strength and breadth of her expertise in the field of data protection and privacy programme management. Alison has earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) credentials through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). One of the founding members of the Isle of Man Data Protection Offi cers’ Forum and a certified Data Protection Practitioner, Alison leads the data privacy service offering for PwC Isle of Man and, in recent years, has worked with clients preparing for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Alison commented: ‘GDPR has focused attention on data protection and data privacy, and many organisations have sought specialist assistance to interpret and implement the new requirements. For me it’s important that when I’m giving advice to clients, I have demonstrable expertise in my subject. These qualifications enhance my existing skillset with a particular focus on the practical implications of creating and implementing a privacy programme.’ The IAPP is the first organisation to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection. IAPP privacy certification is internationally recognised as a reputable, independent programme that professionals seek and employers demand. Alison joins the ranks of more than 10,000 professionals worldwide who currently hold one or more IAPP certifications.
