Cains continueas growth of corporate department
Leading Isle of Man commercial law
firm Cains is continuing the growth of its
award-winning corporate department with
the appointment of Kirsten Middleton.
Kirsten, who joins Cains after five years’
with another Isle of Man law firm, has
experience within a broad range of
corporate and banking matters including
the acquisition and disposal of businesses, corporate financing and re-
financing transactions (including aviation and shipping finance), solvent
and insolvent group reorganisations and the provision of financial
regulatory advice.
Commenting on her appointment, Kirsten said: “The corporate team at
Cains is renowned not only for its depth and experience but also for the
complex and challenging transactions that it regularly advises on and I am
delighted to have been given this opportunity to join such a respected

Peregrine appoints new director

(“Peregrine”) is delighted to
announced the appointment of
Martin Hall to its board of directors.
Martin, who joined the firm in
August, is responsible for the day
to day operations of the company,
managing client relationships and
seeking opportunities to develop
new business.

“I have been made to feel really welcome and I already feel part of the
Peregrine family. I’m looking forward to working with the other board members

Martin has worked in the Island’s finance industry for the entirety of
his career, originally starting out with the Isle of Man Government then
moving into the private sector some years later. His previous experiences
includes the day to day management of a fiduciary department and also
developing a pension division in the same firm which ranged from product
development, systems and operations management and recruitment.
In 2006, Martin became STEP qualified after studying the Trust and Estate
Practitioners’ professional qualification. When he has a chance to relax,
Martin spends a lot of time road cycling and as a keen cyclist, he acts as
Chairman of Isle of Man Cycling and his own cycling club, Manx Viking
Wheelers. “We are pleased to welcome Martin to the board of directors,” said Basil
Bielich, director at Peregrine. “Martin has a wealth of experience across
both the public and private sectors which will enable him to provide
significant contribution to the Peregrine board. My co-directors and I are
confident that Martin will help shape the future of Peregrine and we are
delighted that he has chosen to join the Peregrine board.”
Isle of Man Ship Registry announces new Deputy Director
The Department for Enterprise has
announced the appointment of Toby
Brooks as the new Deputy Director of
the Isle of Man Ship Registry.
Toby has a strong classification and
statutory background, joining the Isle
of Man Ship Registry after 24 years
employment within classification
society Bureau Veritas. Toby has
spent a number of years as a senior
surveyor, before advancing into
technical operations management, business development and project
management roles at a global network level.
Cameron Mitchell, Director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry, commented:
‘I am delighted with the appointment of Toby; he will bring vast technical
and commercial experience to the team and has all the attributes and
expertise needed to take the Ship Registry forward. I wish him all the best
in his new role and I look forward to working together and building on the
Registry’s successes.’
